Freckles

Freckles are one of the most common pigmentation concerns seen in Asian and ethnic skin. Although harmless, they can become darker and more noticeable with sun exposure, making the skin appear uneven, aged or sun-damaged.

MELASMA

AGE RELATED PIGMENTATION

Age-related pigmentation, often referred to as sun spots or age spots, develops gradually following years of sun exposure. These flat brown patches commonly appear on the face, hands and other sun-exposed areas, making the skin appear older and less even in tone.

Laser treatment can effectively target these areas of excess pigment, helping to restore a clearer, brighter and more youthful-looking complexion. PIGMENTED BIRTHMARKS

Birthmarks are areas of increased pigmentation or abnormal blood vessels that are present at birth or develop during early childhood. While most birthmarks are harmless, some patients choose treatment because they become more noticeable over time or affect their appearance.

Many pigmented and vascular birthmarks can be improved with advanced laser treatment, depending on their type, depth and location. ABNOM (Acquired Bilateral Naevus of Ota-like Macules) is a common pigmentation disorder affecting Asian and ethnic skin. It appears as blue-grey or brown patches on the cheeks and around the eyes and often develops during adulthood. Because the pigment lies deeper within the skin, treatment usually requires multiple laser sessions to achieve gradual improvement.

LASER MOLE REMOVAL

Many patients with Asian and ethnic skin develop pigmented facial moles that become more noticeable over time.

Following careful assessment, selected benign pigmented moles may be suitable for cosmetic laser removal.

PIGMENTED MOLE REMOVAL

Many patients with Asian and ethnic skin develop pigmented facial moles that become more noticeable over time. Unlike many moles seen in lighter skin types, Asian moles are often heavily pigmented, making treatment more challenging.

Successful treatment usually involves two separate steps. The first step is to remove the raised mole using CO₂ laser treatment. The second step is to treat the remaining pigmentation using Dr Peter Kim’s Laser Skin Whitening Technique to achieve the best possible cosmetic result.

In some patients, the pigment extends deep within the skin. While the raised mole can usually be removed successfully, it may not be possible to eliminate all of the underlying pigmentation completely. In these cases, the aim is to significantly lighten the pigmentation and improve the overall cosmetic appearance rather than promise complete pigment removal.

Dr Peter Kim will assess each mole individually and discuss the expected outcome before treatment.
