Because these lesions are located very close to the eye, successful treatment requires precise laser control, careful technique and appropriate eye protection throughout the procedure.
In many cases, laser treatment offers an excellent alternative to surgery. Surgical removal can be more invasive, may require stitches and can potentially leave a visible scar. Laser treatment can often achieve an excellent cosmetic outcome with minimal downtime.
This photograph was taken immediately after laser mole removal. The procedure took approximately 2 minutes to perform.
Patient safety is our highest priority. Because treatment is performed close to the eye, special protective measures are always used to protect the eye before the laser procedure begins.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is a mole?
A mole (melanocytic naevus) is a common skin growth caused by clusters of pigment-producing cells within the skin.
Moles can be:
• Flat or raised
• Skin-coloured, brown or black
• Small or large
• Present from birth or develop later in life
Most moles are harmless, although some may change over time.
Can moles be removed with laser treatment?
Yes.
Many benign moles can be safely removed using laser treatment.
Laser mole removal is particularly useful for selected facial moles and cosmetic lesions where a good cosmetic outcome is important.
Not all moles are suitable for laser treatment, which is why an assessment is required before treatment.
Are all moles suitable for laser removal?
No.
Some moles are better treated with surgical excision, while others may require biopsy or further medical assessment.
Every lesion is personally assessed by Dr Peter Kim before treatment recommendations are made.
Patient safety and accurate diagnosis always come first.
Why is medical assessment important before mole removal?
Many skin lesions can resemble moles.
Examples include:
• Seborrhoeic keratoses (age warts)
• Fibrous papules
• Sebaceous hyperplasia
• Skin tags
• Pigmented lesions
• Certain skin cancers
Correct diagnosis is one of the most important factors in achieving a good cosmetic outcome and ensuring appropriate treatment.
Why choose laser instead of surgery?
In suitable patients, laser treatment may offer:
• No stitches
• Less bleeding
• Faster healing
• Excellent cosmetic outcomes
• Minimal downtime
• Treatment of multiple lesions during the same session
However, some lesions are more appropriately managed with surgery. This will be discussed during consultation.
How does laser mole removal work?
Laser treatment carefully removes the mole layer by layer using precisely controlled laser energy.
The laser vaporises the unwanted tissue while minimising damage to surrounding skin.
Treatment settings are adjusted according to:
• Mole size
• Mole depth
• Mole location
• Pigmentation
• Skin type
How many treatments will I need?
Many raised moles can be treated in a single session.
Pigmented moles and deeper lesions often require multiple treatments.
The number of treatments depends on:
• Mole size
• Mole depth
• Pigmentation
• Skin type
• Individual healing response
A personalised treatment plan will be discussed during consultation.
Will there be a scar?
Any treatment that removes a mole can potentially leave some degree of scarring.
Our laser techniques are designed to achieve the best possible cosmetic outcome while minimising visible scarring.
Healing varies between individuals and depends on the size, depth and location of the lesion.
Is laser mole removal painful?
Most patients tolerate treatment very well.
Depending on the lesion being treated, local anaesthetic may be used to maximise comfort.
Once the area is numb, most patients experience little to no discomfort during the procedure.
What is the recovery time?
Following treatment, the area usually forms a small superficial wound.
Patients may experience:
• Mild redness
• Crusting
• Temporary pigmentation changes
• Mild swelling
Healing usually occurs over several days to weeks depending on the size and location of the lesion.
Can moles grow back after laser treatment?
Most treated moles do not return.
However, some deeper moles may recur because pigment cells can extend beneath the visible portion of the lesion.
Pigmented moles are more likely to require additional treatment than small raised skin-coloured moles.
Is laser mole removal safe for Asian and ethnic skin?
Yes.
Asian and ethnic skin often contains higher levels of melanin and may be more prone to pigmentation changes after treatment.
Dr Peter Kim has over 20 years of experience treating Caucasian, Asian and ethnic skin and carefully adjusts treatment settings according to skin type.
Many of our mole removal patients have Asian skin types.
Why is experience important in mole removal?
Successful mole removal depends on:
• Accurate diagnosis
• Appropriate treatment selection
• Correct laser settings
• Understanding of wound healing
• Experience treating different skin types
Dr Peter Kim has over 20 years of experience in cosmetic and dermatological laser medicine and has personally performed more than 10,000 laser procedures.
All treatments are personally performed by Dr Peter Kim.
What are the possible risks and complications?
Laser mole removal is generally very safe when performed by an experienced doctor.
Potential risks include:
• Temporary redness
• Hyperpigmentation
• Hypopigmentation
• Delayed healing
• Infection (rare)
• Scarring (rare)
• Mole recurrence
These risks vary according to the type and location of the lesion.
How much does laser mole removal cost?
The cost of laser mole removal depends on:
• The type of mole
• The size and location of the mole
• Whether underlying pigmentation is present
• The number of treatment sessions required
As a general guide:
💰 Single mole removal: approximately $500
💰 Multiple moles: from $750+
Some pigmented or deeper moles may require multiple treatment sessions to achieve the best cosmetic outcome.
